Guest Wi-Fi Protection

Protecting Guests in a Digital World: How Hospitality Can Strengthen Online Safety Without Adding Complexity

By Christian Weinholtz IV, MBA, Senior Vice President of Engineering and Product, Allbridge

The hospitality industry has long prioritized guest safety. Today, that responsibility extends beyond physical security to include the digital environments guests rely on every day.

Whether guests are checking email, streaming content, accessing business applications, or connecting personal devices, hotel WiFi networks have become an essential part of the guest experience. As reliance on connectivity grows, so does the need to ensure those networks are safe, secure, and protected from harmful online content and cyber threats.

That is why Allbridge recently announced Guest WiFi Protection, powered by DNSFilter, a fully managed, cloud-based security solution designed to enhance digital safety across hospitality properties without requiring new hardware, complex deployments, or additional vendors.

Why Network Safety Matters More Than Ever

Hotels manage thousands of guest internet sessions every day. While most online activity is legitimate, hospitality operators face increasing pressure to protect networks from cyber threats, phishing attempts, malware, and access to illegal or harmful content.

One area receiving growing attention across the industry is the prevention of online access to child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Although hotels are not the source of such content, network providers and operators have an opportunity to help prevent access to known illegal websites through intelligent network controls.

This effort aligns with broader hospitality initiatives such as the American Hotel & Lodging Association’s (AHLA) No Room for Trafficking program, which provides education, awareness, and resources to help hotels combat human trafficking and exploitation. It also supports the work of Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals (HFTP), which continues to educate hospitality leaders on the role technology and cybersecurity can play in improving guest protection.

Understanding DNS Security

At the heart of the solution is DNS (Domain Name System) technology. Often described as the internet’s “phonebook,” DNS translates website names into the IP addresses computers use to communicate.

Because nearly every internet request relies on DNS, it provides a highly effective control point for identifying and blocking access to malicious, fraudulent, or illegal destinations before a connection is ever established.

Through its partnership with DNSFilter, Allbridge can apply advanced DNS-layer protection across guest networks without installing appliances, changing existing infrastructure, or introducing additional operational complexity.

Proven Results at Scale

The effectiveness of DNS-based protection is already being demonstrated across large hospitality portfolios.

In the first 12 months of deployment across more than 1,000 properties, the platform:

  • Blocked more than 331,000 attempts to access known CSAM-related destinations
  • Successfully processed more than 391 billion DNS queries
  • Achieved full-scale deployment across a 1,000+ property franchise portfolio in approximately three months

These results demonstrate how cloud-based security can be implemented rapidly while providing meaningful protection across thousands of guest connections every day.

Simplifying Security for Hotel Operators

One of the biggest challenges facing hospitality operators is managing an increasingly complex technology environment. Adding another appliance, another vendor contract, or another management portal often creates more work for already stretched IT teams.

Guest Wi‑Fi Protection was designed with a different approach.

The solution is delivered as an add-on to existing Allbridge service agreements, with no new hardware required, no separate vendor relationships to manage, and no operational burden placed on hotel staff. Allbridge handles deployment, management, monitoring, and ongoing support.

This allows hotels to strengthen their security posture while maintaining the simplicity and service model operators expect from a managed technology partner.

Supporting a Safer Hospitality Industry

Technology alone cannot solve complex social challenges such as human trafficking and online exploitation. However, technology can play an important supporting role.

By combining awareness programs, employee training, operational vigilance, and intelligent network safeguards, the hospitality industry can continue building safer environments for guests, employees, and communities.

At Allbridge, we believe network infrastructure should do more than deliver connectivity, it should actively support guest protection, operational excellence, and industry best practices.

Guest Wi‑Fi Protection represents another step toward that goal, helping hospitality organizations strengthen digital safety without adding cost, complexity, or administrative overhead.

As guest expectations and digital threats continue to evolve, hospitality providers need solutions that are both effective and easy to implement. Through our partnership with DNSFilter and our ongoing commitment to innovation, Allbridge is helping operators create safer, more secure guest experiences while keeping technology simple.
